Summer is almost here! We are all ready for a break around here and summer is my absolute favorite. There is less pressure to get the kids to bed early, no homework, fewer activities, and an all around more laid back feel to the day!
While I love this laid back attitude, I also do need to keep some self-goals as to not let myself slip into a summer funk. This has happened in the past when I allow myself to sleep in with the kids, fall behind on things, and just lose some motivation. This lack of motivation then translates into all areas – housework, the blog, crabby mom… I am setting some goals for myself as we head into summer to help me stay motivated. These are all things that help my mindset – which leads to a better summer for all!
- Continue to get up before kids. For me this is a huge one! Whether I am getting up early to work out or to sit with my coffee and plan the day, having this time to myself before the kids wake up is a huge help to my daily mindset. I always feel a step behind when I sleep in and am convinced I am a better mom after my first cup of coffee!
- Working out 3 days a week minimum. Another huge one for me! I work out for my mental health. The physical benefits are an added bonus! I work out in the morning…if I don’t do it then, I won’t do it. It sets the tone for my day and I tend to eat healthier the rest of the day. Three weekdays is my goal. Getting that Sat morning workout in is so great (but sometimes so hard!), so I am trying to be realistic with the 3 day goal.
- Mindful use of time. I have been struggling with this lately. After having more time on my hands, I have had difficulty filling this appropriately. Sounds crazy, right? I get more done when I am busy! And with this summer down time, I want to make sure I use my time with purpose. For me, this requires reflection – how did I use my time yesterday? Where did I waste my time and what things sucked time away from me?
These 3 goals are ones that are attainable for me. I know by focusing on these, I will have a more motivated, happy summer with the kids. We only get a handful of these and I am determined to make the most of each one!
