Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all are spending the day with those you love. We are spending the day with Aaron’s family and I am so excited to relax and celebrate all we have to be thankful for.
I am always reminded of the phrase, “We may not be lucky, but we sure are blessed”. Our unique situation gives me the opportunity to frequently reflect on our blessings, but they certainly come to mind a little more this time of year. I am so thankful for 3 pairs of little hands to nurture, guide, and love. Raising them to be strong and spiritual people will be the greatest thing I do with my life. And one of my greatest callings is to help them feel safe and secure with all the unknown in our life.
A quick update on Aaron – You can see last update here. Since the change in his last treatment, he has responded great. The couple small spots in his lungs have all shrunk and are barely visible on scan. His previously treated lymph nodes also appear to be clear. The lab marker that has always been responsive to active cancer has now now returned to normal level. So all of this is great news and we are so thankful. He has been tolerating therapy fairly well. It does make him sick the first couple days after the infusion. And for the first time since being on chemo, he is losing his hair. It is also affecting his skin – both annoying side effects, but ones that he will endure as part of his ongoing battle. Aaron will continue on this treatment as long as it continues to work. His next scan will be around the first of the year. We are so grateful for everyones continued prayers.
Our school shared the following prayer that is such a beautiful way to express all we are thankful for and calling to mind those who need our prayers:
“Dear Lord, Today we give thanks for our many blessings as we pray for those in need.
We give thanks for our family and friends as we pray for those who are lonely.
We give thanks for our freedoms as we pray for those who are oppressed.
We give thanks for our good health as we pray for those who are ill.
We give thanks for our comfort and prosperity as we share our blessings with others. On this day of Thanksgiving, may the love of God enfold us, the peace of God dwell within us, and the joy of God uplift us.”
