Part 2 of our Kansas City trip is finally here!! Check out post 1 for the details of our first half of the trip. To recap, we headed to Excelsior Springs, MO for a fabulous spa day at The Elms. We stayed at this historic hotel and loved the beautiful building. That night we stumbled upon a darling, family-owned winery where we had a super fun tasting with too much wine and pizza (if that is possible).
Part 2 of our trip brought us into Kansas City (Excelsior Springs is about a 20 minute drive from KC). Aaron affectionately called our trip “the tale of two hotels”. And that is truly what it was! We went from a historic and stately hotel to a modern and luxurious hotel – both awesome in very, very different ways! Hotel Sorella is where we stayed the second half of our trip.
Hotel Sorella is a newer hotel in the Country Club Plaza shopping district. It was perfect being able to walk to our hotel and restaurant.
I loved the decor of the hotel!
^^Ready to do some shopping!!
^^Beautiful bar at the hotel. It was busy the night we stayed there and appeared to be a pretty popular place.
^^Rooftop pool and cabanas
The outdoor, roof-top pool made it feel like we weren’t even in KC!
There is so much great shopping in KC. While Omaha is catching up and opening many of the same, larger stores, there are still a lot that KC offers that I don’t have access to on a regular basis 🙂 To start our shopping day off, we went to Nell Hills – a meca of home decor and furniture. One step in this store and you will want to re-decorate your entire house. Sigh.
After Nells Hills, we hit up the Country Club Plaza – most peoples shopping destination when in KC. The plaza offers almost all of your top end retailers (think Burberry, Tiffany’s, Kate Spade) as well as many other shops that offer a little more reasonable prices (J.Crew, Gap, H&M, etc). I got some great things for me, the kids, and Aaron while shopping.
My other must-stop shopping places in Kansas City are really based on what I cannot find in Omaha. These include: Restoration Hardware (their new building in Overland Park is AMAZING), Ikea (we went Sunday right when it opened and much, much less crowded), Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, and Crate & Barrel,
I bought a new necklace at Kendra Scott as a souvenir of our trip 🙂
For dinner, we ate at Fogo de Chao. This is Aaron’s favorite restaurant, so I really didn’t have much say in where we went 😉 That being said, I do love this restaurant and if you haven’t ever been, you should definitely try. This is a Brazilian steakhouse that carves and serves many different cuts of meat table side. While I love great steak, my favorite part of Fogo is the salad bar. This really is the BEST salad bar you will ever eat at.
After dinner, we went to Top Golf for some fun and drinks. The best way to explain Top Golf, is it is essentially like bowling, only golfing – if that even remotely makes sense 😉 You take turns hitting the golf balls out into a giant course and compete for points (based on distance and accuracy). The balls have chips in them and there are different colored (giant) holes out in the driving range.
^^Note my excellent form 😉
We had such a great time on our trip! Having divided our trip into two such very different sections, made it feel like a much longer trip than a usual weekend jaunt down to KC. If I were to do it again, I would go for 3 nights instead of 2 – I would have enjoyed a little more time at each hotel. I did feel like we didn’t hang out at either of our hotels much since we had so much going on during the days.
Planning any trips to KC soon? What are your favorite stops?
